Expanding from 39 Locations to 54 throughout JapanMUJI Expands Duty-Free Service Locations
To better serve guests visiting from overseas, MUJI, operated by Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan; Satoru Matsuzaki, president and representative director), began offering duty-free services in April of this year at a limited number of locations. The company has announced that beginning October 5, it will expand the number of stores offering duty-free services from the current 39 to 54 throughout Japan.
Japan's consumption tax laws related to purchases by tourists were revised on October 1, 2014. The newly revised law significantly expanded the number of products eligible for duty-free purchase. MUJI took advantage of this opportunity to introduce duty-free services at 39 MUJI stores around Japan. Travellers to Japan have greeted this service enthusiastically since its inception. Duty-free sales at the 39 eligible locations now represent more than 2.4 percent of all sales for all stores directly operated by MUJI.
With this announcement, MUJI has once again reiterated its commitment to help travellers from overseas experience more convenient, more enjoyable shopping at MUJI.
