Partnership Agreement Concluded with Namie Town in Fukushima Prefecture to Promote Regional Development Centered on Michi-no-Eki Mamie (Roadside Station)
With the aim of realizing "a simple, pleasant life" and "a simple, pleasant society," we are participating in various initiatives to revitalize the local community led by local governments and residents.
The Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Station) Mamie facility in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, was pre-opened on August 1, 2020 as a symbol of the reconstruction of Namie Town, which was greatly affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the incident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. It is also a place for local residents to communicate where restaurants and shopping facilities that support daily life are available.
On Friday, November 20, we signed a partnership agreement with Namie Town of Futaba District, Fukushima Prefecture, aimed at the development of local communities and the revitalization of the local economy. We will cooperate closely with Namie Town in the fields of regional revitalization centering on the Michi-no-Eki Namie, promotion of reconstruction, and promotion of industry and tourism, while utilizing the experience we have cultivated thus far. In February, we plan to dispatch our employees to support the operation of the entire facility and to expand the sales channels and visibility of local products through the Regional Revitalization Program of the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications.
In March 2021, together with grand opening of the Michi-no-Eki Namie, we will also open the MUJI Michi-no-Eki Namie (provisional name). This store will be a licensed store that commissions the operation to a general incorporated association called Machizukuri-Namie, which conducts community-based town planning in collaboration with the public and private sectors, with the aim of revitalizing and restoring Namie-machi in a richer and more attractive manner. The sales floor area of the store will be approximately 160 square meters and it will be the first MUJI store opened in a roadside station.
Taking advantage of the opening of the Michi-no-Eki Miami store, we will continue to strengthen the opening of stores in roadside stations, which are important transportation hubs in the suburbs and are close to the daily lives of local residents. In cooperation with local governments, local companies, and local residents, we aim to contribute to the development of the region as well as to the day-to-day living of the people in the community. Please be updated with the future developments.
